Federal Grant Opportunities

 

Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act passed in November of 2021 designated $1.2 trillion towards clean water initiatives (lead mitigation and other), upgrading roads & bridges, expanding public transit, upgrading ports, and expanding passenger rail. The bill also addresses the needs of cooperative and municipal electric utilities.

In the bill over $100 billion in grants are being made available to support a wide range of electric utility projects, including:

  •              Distribution Grid Resiliency – Existing Programs and R&D
  •              Energy Improvement – Rural & Remote Areas
  •              Technology for Smart Grid including AMI
  •              Cybersecurity
  •              EV Charging Network
  •              Broadband
  •              Middle Mile Fiber
  •              Hydro Efficiency and Improvement

The grants will be released through a combination of federal departments and state agencies. Overall program objectives have been released, while the specific program details and grant filing instructions will be developed over the next few months.
