  | A Distribution Management System (DMS) refers to a suite of application software that supports electric system operations. This software is often sold as options by SCADA vendors. There are also other vendors who specialize in providing some of these applications. Example applications include topology processor, on-line three-phase unbalanced distribution power flow, contingency analysis, study mode analysis, switch order management, short-circuit analysis, volt/VAR management, and loss analysis. These applications provide operations staff and engineering personnel additional information and tools to help accomplish their objectives.
DMS applications such as on-line distribution power flow requires an electric system model including connectivity, impedance, equipment, load distribution, and most likely geographic coordinates for all components. Obtaining this data and allowing for regular updates requires access to data that originates in sources such as GIS/AM-FM, CIS/billing, and system study load flow packages.
PSE has experience addressing data integration issues that are key to any DMS implementation. We also have experience with the design and specification of DMS applications.
Services PSE can provide include: |
|
 |
   |
- Evaluate the business case for each DMS application.
- Assess each vendor's solution in terms of application software quality and readiness to interface with existing utility information system and databases.
- Design an integration solution to populate and maintain the DMS database.
- Help plan and refine the business processes and tools that result in updates to the electric system model. This requires methods that achieve single-point of entry for electric system changes while still supporting all applications requiring or affected by the new data.
- Provides hands-on implementation assistance to commission the DMS applications.
- Train staff on the use of the DMS applications.
