  | Mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (including AM/FM) are key to a utility's business. These software applications store and map a vast amount of information about the utility's electric system and other outside plants. People and applications across the organization typically require information from the GIS.
For GIS to be the most beneficial, it needs to become one of the most integrated applications at the utility. Many business processes or systems impact and depend on the GIS. Examples include field design or staking, outage management systems, maps for line personnel, the electric system model for system planning, inventory systems, asset accounting, and others.
PSE has helped design, specify and select integrated GIS solutions. We have also implemented AutoCAD based mapping for smaller utilities when an integrated GIS is not desired. This later experience is beneficial when utilities are migrating from an AutoCAD based mapping system to a true GIS/AM-FM system.
