Design Tasks

Utility staff can often be faced with a variety of relatively small system improvement or repair projects that have an engineering design element. Due to resource constraints or the rarity of the situation for the utility, the staff at the utility may desire outside assistance. PSE provides this type of assistance to its engineering clients on an as needed basis.

Examples of design services PSE provides include:
  • Determine and/or program configurations for equipment including regulators controls, load tap changer controls, capacitor controls, reclosers controls, and revenue and survey metering.
  • Size fusing, conductors, conduit, transformers, capacitors, reclosers, potential transformers, and current transformers.
  • Perform motor starting analysis.
  • Interpret electrical codes on services, grounding, transformer locating, line design, and other matters as needed.
  • Design peak alert metering and alarm and control systems.
  • Perform system protection analysis for overvoltage, overcurrent, and grounding.
  • Design loop transfer systems.
  • Design substation modifications.
  • Perform transformer loss evaluations.
