Customer and Financial Information System

The workhorse applications of utilities, the customer and financial information systems (CIS and FIS), are too often overlooked and underappreciated. Many utilities are faced with outdated technology on unsupported hardware, complex customizations, lackluster vendor support and memories of difficult or rushed previous conversions, undelivered promises, and insufficient training. Upgrading or purchasing a new CIS and/or FIS is many times seen as a high-risk venture. But it need not be.

New CIS and FIS can provide improved member/customer support, web payments and inquiry support, faster and more accurate billing, and improved productivity with better workflow processes and increased customer satisfaction. In addition, they have become much easier to use, boosting productivity and employee satisfaction.

The experienced team at Power System Engineering, Inc. (PSE) can provide:

  • Understanding of the conversion process required to upgrade or change CIS/FIS vendors.

  • Understanding of geographic information system (GIS) and outage management system (OMS) technologies, including data integrity issues and support.

  • Understanding of MultiSpeak integration methodology.

  • Utility process knowledge expertise.

  • Years of experience in utility technology vendor selection.

  • Specific expertise with vendor functionality and capability to provide insights that are often missed by many utilities.

  • Professional engineering expertise complemented by financial/business expertise with economists and MBAs on our project team.

  • Project management skills.

Will Work With Your Staff

PSE will work with your staff to analyze needs, explore technologies, review previous work to date, facilitate communications, track the schedule, and communicate with all stakeholders. We can maximize the use of your internal skills and build upon existing expertise to properly define requirements, effectively evaluate the alternatives, select an appropriate solution, and successfully implement that solution. PSE does not provide the same solution for each utility. Instead, PSE helps the utility select the vendors that best meet its operational needs, implementation schedules, integration with other key utility systems, and budget constraints.
