Distribution Operations & Planning Team Leader

Power System Engineering, Inc. (PSE) has an opening in our Madison, WI office for a Distribution Operations & Planning Team Leader. This leadership position requires a motivating leader capable of guiding a team of engineers and technicians who specialize in the support of system operations and development of engineering plans for our clients who own and operate electric distribution delivery systems. The Team Leader is also required to be actively involved with identifying and winning project work with our new and existing clients; quality control of team deliverables; and hands-on project management of various projects within the team and in the Resource & System Planning Department.

The Team Leader should have a minimum of 5 years of experience with a BSEE, a PE or meet the eligibility requirements to become registered. The candidate should possess a working knowledge of electric distribution systems, applicable USDA-RD, NESC, IEEE and ANSI standards are a plus.

Rate and Financial Analyst

Working closely with senior staff, this position would assist in the development of retail rate/cost of service studies, financial forecasts and other electric utility rate and financial analysis. Utility Communications Consultant - Mobile Voice and Fixed Data

Power System Engineering, Inc. (PSE) has an opening in our Madison, WI office for a project management level person responsible for wide area communication studies and propogation activities focusing on land mobile radio (LMR) and fixed wireless design.

PSE leads technology and product selection projects of new privately owned mobile voice/data and fixed data systems for electric utilities. The tasks typically begin with defining the unique requirements, selecting the best technology, completing the radio design work, writing the RFP’s for the vendors to bid on, and helping the utility select the best product to meet the requirements.

Applicants must have at least 10 years of experience completing design tasks for both LMR and fixed wireless. Having core expertise in the following areas is highly desired:
  • Capability to complete LMR propagation studies and design.
  • Expertise in any or all of the following technologies: Licensed radio 30 to 900 MHz, unlicensed 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and licensed microwave.
  • Good understanding of the product trade-offs for fixed data and LMR.
  • Experience working with frequency coordinators to help clients obtain the needed licenses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with clients in selling new work, completing strategy sessions with clients, writing proposals, specifications and RFPs and occasionally making industry presentations.

The selected individual will be working in a small team environment with other communication related experts. An engineering degree or technical degree and PE registration is preferred.

Substation Engineer

Power System Engineering, Inc. (PSE) has an opening in our Madison, WI office for a Substation Design Engineer. This individual will perform comprehensive quality design of medium and high voltage substations to include physical layout design, equipment specifications, electrical and construction diagrams, construction cost estimates, and project management. Candidates shall demonstrate experience in the engineering of bus work, power transformers, switchgear, ground grids, foundations, instrument transformers, DC battery systems, control house equipment and oil containment systems.

PSE also completes many projects that involve substation automation of IEDs, RTUs, data concentrators, communications equipment and the associated head-end hardware and software systems. Candidates that have an interest to work in the traditional substation engineering and in this new, interesting, and challenging automation area are encouraged to apply. Hands-on training would be completed by PSE’s existing substation automation experts.
Travel to client sites for work is required on an as needed basis. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must.

Qualifications include a BSEE or MSEE degree. A minimum of 5 years experience is required. Individuals must be either a registered Professional Engineer or meet the eligibility requirements to become registered. The applicant must be self-motivated, able to grasp concepts quickly and have an entrepreneurial outlook.

Utility Automation Consultant

Power System Engineering, Inc. (PSE) has an opening in our Madison, Wisconsin office for a Utility Automation Consultant to lead electric utility automation projects. Typical projects involve developing technology strategic plans for utilities and leading automation procurement initiatives involving: AMR/AMI, Mobile Workforce Management, Mobile Data, Land Mobile Radio, GIS, OMS, SCADA and other automation technologies. To be considered, candidates must also have a minimum of five years experience working with utilities with proven client interaction, interpersonal and business development skills. Individuals with BSEE, MSEE, or MBAs are highly desired.
