PSE Introduces the Utility Operation Dashboard

PSE is excited to introduce new capabilities to assist utilities with the development of an operations dashboard with up-to-date operational statistics and integrations with the Customer Information System (CIS), Geographic Information System (GIS), SCADA, Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), and other systems. The dashboard presents a quick snapshot of key information such as outages and outage locations viewed via GIS, pending service orders, AVL, substation load, weather, and other information. PSE’s dashboard can be accessed by utility employees anywhere – at the desk, at home, at the airport – on any Web-linked PC, smart phone, or tablet simply by clicking on an icon.

Most of the utility’s systems such as SCADA, Outage Management System (OMS), and Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) provide specialized web tools for view and control, but most utilities do not have the benefit of a consolidated site in which these separate applications can be brought together. PSE has developed an integration means to easily link automation systems and present all the critical time-sensitive operations activities within one web application.

The dynamic operations data is presented in easy-to-understand graphs, dials, and images. The dashboard is a means to compliment a utility’s existing automation investments and to allow more employees a concise overview of the present state of operations.

PSE offers a turn-key solution by delivering:

  • A choice of templates from which the utility can select the desired look and feel, organization, and navigation of the dashboard.
  • Pre-written integrations and web linking between the automation systems and web applications.
  • Training for the utility’s technical team to allow internal maintenance of the dashboard post cutover.
  • Secure content.
  • A low cost product with high value.

Most AMI, OMS, CIS, SCADA, etc. vendors all are doing wonderful things in terms of migrating data to the Web. Unfortunately, each vendors focuses on its own content. Fortunately, vendors are using standards-based web tools to present their data, making it fairly straightforward for PSE to write HTML extensions to retrieve the data and then consolidate it in a single dashboard view.
