Interconnecting Small Solar and Wind: Installation and Operations Practices

On Wednesday February 11th, PSE’s Jeff Triplett and Erik Sonju will be presenting a full day session on solar, wind and other DG resources connected to distribution systems. The course is designed to wade through the wealth of information available on this topic and concisely explain the information that cooperatives really need to know and understand. Related case studies will be used to illustrate the cooperative review process for DG interconnections from the initial contact through final acceptance/commissioning testing. A listing of topics to be covered includes:

  1. IEEE Standard 1547 as a basis for interconnecting inverter based, synchronous machine based, and induction machine based generation to distribution systems
  2. Engineering impact studies: when, how, and what tools are available
  3. Co-op inspection and testing of customer-owned interconnection equipment
  4. Options for crew work rules and co-op procedures for feeders that have interconnected generation
  5. Contracts, insurance, metering policy, and wheeling policy related to customer generation
